ขิดเป็นกรรมวิธีการทอผ้าทางภาคอีสานซึ่งทำกันมาตั้งแต่โบราณ โดยการใช้ขนเม่นสกิดยกเส้นไหมหรือฝ้ายให้เกิดเป็นลายขณะทอลวดลาย ที่นิยมทำกันคือรูปทรงเลขาคณิต ซึ่งกลายเป็นเอกลักษณ์ ของผ้าขิดในปัจจุบัน

The Northeast of Thailand has long used the quills of porcupines to create raised designs on silk or cotton cloth while still on the loom. The most popular designs are geometric, which have thus become identified with this particular crafts.
